FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS THE LEADERSHIP TEAM?

Our leadership team is comprised of all of our Ambassadors and our Executive Team.

Who can apply?

Executive Team positions are open to juniors and seniors only (must be at least a junior in Fall 2019). Ambassador positions are open to all high school students age 13+. You must be in the state of Utah to apply to be a March For Our Lives UT leader.

What do these positions involve?

Executive Team: Part of the core team of MFOL UT organizers responsible for managing the state chapter. This team is responsible for working with community partners and MFOL UT Advisors to plan events, fundraise, manage the legislative session, implement direct action projects in our communities, manage the Ambassador program, and handle all logistical needs for the organization, such as mass communications, social media, and graphic design. Executive Team positions are open to juniors and seniors only.

Ambassador: Part of the larger team of MFOL UT organizers responsible for representing March For Our Lives in our schools and communities. The Ambassador Program is the heart of this organization, and you will have opportunities to participate in training and events, lobby on Capitol Hill, implement programs and develop resources in your community, and lead the fight for reasonable gun reform in Utah. Ambassador positions are open at all students age 13+.

WHAT IS THE DEADLINE?

Applications open 12:01AM on May 1, and close 11:59PM on June 4th.

IS THERE AN INTERVIEW?

Only for Executive Team applicants — Ambassadors will not do interviews. Executive Team applicants who are moved to the interview round will be asked to report for group and individual interviews during the time frame of June 11 - 21.

WHEN WILL I FIND OUT IF I’VE BEEN SELECTED?

All notifications will be made by June 31. Exec Team applicants who have been selected for an interview will be notified no later than 12:00PM on Friday, June 7th.

What’s the time commitment for these positions?

We are looking for motivated students who will prioritize this opportunity. The minimum time commitment is 1 hour per week for Ambassadors, 5 hours per week for Executive Team members. This includes weekly Monday night meetings for the Executive Team.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

Leaders in March For Our Lives Utah are on the front lines of gun violence prevention in our state. Since the group was founded a little over a year ago, these have been a few of our accomplishments:

  • Organized the largest political demonstration in Utah history (March For Our Lives SLC, March 2018)

  • Hosted a stop on the MFOL Road to Change with founders like Emma González, David Hogg, Jaclyn Corin, and more

  • Lobbied throughout the 2019 Utah legislative session, including testifying on multiple gun sense bills

  • Created an endorsement system for state candidates (“Vote Orange”) to help voters determine which of their potential representatives are dedicated to common-sense gun laws

  • Canvassed for multiple candidates who demonstrated a commitment to gun reform and public safety, including newly elected legislators Senator Derek Kitchen, Representative Andrew Stoddard, and Representative Jennifer Dailey-Provost.

  • Organized voter registration training to help our student leaders implement voter registration drives in their schools

  • Planned multiple rallies to encourage voter participation and vigils to honor victims of gun violence

  • Helped to implement dozens of voter registration drives in high schools across Utah

  • Hosted a monthly radio show on KRCL 90.9FM

  • Obtained our 501c4 status as a registered nonprofit

  • Presented and tables at multiple conferences throughout the year

  • Led the 2018 Utah Pride Parade and tabled throughout the weekend at Utah Pride Festival

  • Awarded the first ever Legislator for Our Lives awards to members of the Utah legislature who showed a demonstrated commitment to ending gun violence

  • Organized our first annual Gala for Gun Reform, a fundraising event that raised over $12,000

As a leader in March For Our Lives Utah, you have unique access to opportunities for skill development, especially in the areas of activism and nonprofit organizing. This is true for all of our team members, Ambassadors and Executive Team members alike.
